More and more layers of clothing are arriving to Forest Playschool as we are heading towards winter. This week’s animal-to-find was the moose. Did you know that moose will dive several feet underwater to find certain aquatic vegetation? These plants are rich in sodium, calcium and phosphorus, key nutrients to a moose’s diet. The children are getting better and better at finding animals, this week focusing on spreading out rather than clustering in one area to yield better results.
On Wednesday and Friday, we decided to go to Peeper Pond where we would also have our snack time. The children had lots of fun playing hide and seek and a game they made up called “explorer” in the tall grasses that are abundant in the area. After playing in the fields, we returned to the barn to eat lunch and have story time. This week, we read about what hibernation means and why animals do it. Some animals like black bears are about to hibernate whereas animals like groundhogs already are doing so.
Even though it is getting colder, the children continue being physically active, keeping them warm outside to enjoy their adventures in nature.
