It is the peak of peak foliage season in Vermont, as indicated by the roads congested with leaf peepers. This week’s animal-to-find was the white-tail deer. The children are getting quicker by the week at finding our hidden critters.
On Wednesday the group went down to Beaver Pond and made mud castles and drawings in the silt. We also collected two dozen eastern newts (the adult form of the terrestrial Red Eft) and placed them in a bin filled with water to look at.
On Friday we had two guest appearances, Debbie and Emily C, along with Emily K. Our morning meeting leader planned a great day to keep our bodies moving. After enjoying snack we journeyed to Forest Camp where we played for a little while. Some of us climbed, others made up some yummy treats in the mud kitchen, and a few played hide and seek. We then got on trail to hike the ENTIRE Hires Trail. We made a stop at Look Out Rock and listened to the sounds around us. We also compared leaves we liked and saw which were similar in shape color, size, etc., and which were different too. We continued on trail following the blue and silver arrows leading our way. We made it back to Forest Camp just in time for lunch and a few stories, one about ants and another about spiders! Finally the sun came out to end out day with thank you circle and some choice time as we waited for our adults to come!
