The Junior Conservation Technicians (JCTs) teamed up with Audubon Vermont alumni last Saturday for Birdathon! After months of learning bird calls and field markings, JCTs were able to put their new skills into practice. The group set off on the trails of the Green Mountain Audubon Center to identify as many bird species as possible while keeping track of individuals to be submitted to eBird. The search took them to the gardens, woods, rivers, swamps and fields of the center. Each trail boasted a new challenge of identification, leading the group to study the intricacies of birdsong and chase flittering warblers though the canopy. After a long morning of birding, the cohort returned to the center for lunch, networking, and Birdathon Bingo. The JCTs and Audubon Vermont alumni were able to identify a total of 55 species! See our list below for more details. 

While walking the trails, some non-bird highlights were finding an impossibly small American Toad, foraging Chicken of the Woods mushrooms and having a taste test, and the beaver dam!
