Due to ongoing challenges brought on by the Coronavirus pandemic we have made the difficult decision to let the maple sugarbush at the Green Mountain Audubon Center rest this year. While we will not be producing our delicious maple syrup, or hosting our beloved Sugar on Snow Parties this season, we do have maple syrup for sale at our office. Just call us to arrange a pick-up 802-434-3068. Our sugarbush hiking trails will still be open to the public from dawn until dusk every day!
Maple Magic Activities in March at Audubon
This March we’ll have some fun maple activities set up for you to enjoy on your own - whether you're at home or exploring the trails in the sugarbush.
- Maple Story Walk: We encourage you to visit the Audubon Center to follow our maple story walk. Just head to the sugarhouse and look to the trail on your left for the first page of the story.
- Maple Bingo (coming soon): Play maple bingo in your own community or at Audubon's sugarbush.
- Birds of the Sugarbush Scavenger Hunt: Participate in our Birds of the Sugarbush Scavenger Hunt. Hard copies will be available at the kiosk near the Sugarhouse Parking Area.
- Find the Hidden Sap Bucket: Search for the single hidden sap bucket we will hang in the sugabush this year! When you find the bucket, post a photo of it on Instagram, tag your location at Audubon Vermont, and use the #AudubonMapleMagic, and you will be entered into a raffle to win a gallon of Audubon's wood-fired maple syrup! Full rules and details here.
- Adopt a Maple: You can also still adopt a maple tree this year. Your maple leaf card will be displayed on the sugarhouse rather than a sap bucket and your donation will still help to support our maple sugaring program. Find full details on how to adopt a maple tree below.
We'll also be sharing a host of online activities throughout March. Each day, a new short video about sugaring, a maple recipe, or a bird of the sugarbush will be highlighted. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to participate!
Adopt-a-Maple
Do you want to help protect birds and their habitat? Looking for a unique gift? With our Adopt-a-Maple program you can support Audubon Vermont’s Bird-Friendly Maple Project as well as our Bird-Friendly Maple Education Programming.
Maple sugarbushes are inherently good for birds, but forests that are intentionally managed with birds in mind are even better! Biologically and structurally diverse sugarbushes like the one at the Audubon Center offer great places for birds to forage, find cover, and raise their young. They are also likely to have better long-term sap production, fewer forest health problems, and be better able to adapt to the stresses of climate change.
