Two Sunny Days

Week 3

Friday 3/19

We had a rather chilly Friday, but the sun was nice and strong so the cold didn’t even bother us!

We started our day finding the sunniest area on the garden to play in as we waiting for all our friends to arrive. We had snow kitchen materials out, brought out some sleds, and had a blast rolling around in the sun.

Once we all arrived and had some time with free play we journeyed to Forest Camp where a roaring fire was already going. We all planned the day and chose to go on a nice hike in the woods to keep out bodies moving, playing some games, playing with and in the snow again, and then wrapping up with lunch in some sunshine.

After snack we went on a hike up into the woods past Forest Camp, we took the Warbler Trail! On the hike we saw some deer scat, deer prints, and some other melted prints as well. We enjoyed sliding on the ice at parts and running on the leaves and ground in other areas. Midway through the hike Ciara and I heard a sound, so we froze and listened. It was an unusual sound that we couldn’t figure out. We started hiking again and Ciara found a clue, a turkey feather! The strange sound we heard was from a group of turkeys!

When we got back from the hike we have a task to find hidden (fake) maple leaves all around forest camp. We did find all 35!

After this activity we were so hungry! We enjoyed lunch around the fire and Ciara read us 2 stories.

Out of now where is was pick up time. We ended our time playing on some rocks in the garden!

Monday 3/22

What a beautiful day! The sun was shining and all the birds were chirping and we all had huge smiles on our faces. This was definitely different from the week before when we had to cancel due to a negative wind chill. Oh how March keeps us on our toes.

We started our day playing in the backyards and sledding down a small hill. Once our mud kitchen bucket was emptied some of us had the idea to sit in the bucket and slid down the hill! It looked like so much fun, and from all the laughter it definitely was for our Playschoolers.

After our free play time we went to forest camp for Morning meeting. We all planned the day, and what an exciting day we had ahead of us. After our meeting was over we enjoyed snack and a story and then were ready to get on with our day.

We started an activity to find all of these maple leaf pictures that were hidden around Forest Camp. There was a total of 35 and we found them all!

We then began our lesson on Maple sugaring! We learned that all tree make sap, but the reason we use maple sap is because it had the high sugar content, about 3% of sap is sugar. We learned how to identify a maple tree by its bark, its branches, and its leaves. Then we tapped a tree. We each got a chance to drill the hole and hammer in the tap! Sap was flowing and after we cleaned our hands we enjoyed a taste test of sap from a maple tree!

After we tapped we enjoyed free play time which led into lunch time where Ciara and Sarah each read us a story.

These days just fly by! I can’t wait to see what we get into next week!
