What a wonderful welcome to December, some fresh snow for us to play in. No body minds the cold when there is snow on the ground and playing to be done. Both mornings it was hard to focus on finding our animals with all the snow, but we did it! We found all 28 chickadees that were hiding in the yard, we even found and heard some real ones too!
Wednesday, we had so much fun in the snow. It started on our way to morning meeting when we were greeted by the songs of chickadees on our porch. We stopped and watched them at the feeder for a while, we also saw nuthatches and dark eyed juncos too. Our big adventure today was to go down to Peeper Pond, and to our surprise the tall grass and plants we play in typically was cut down! We do this every few years to help the new plants to grow in the spring. This little hiccup didn’t stop us from playing. We tried to build snowmen, made snow angels, and just rolled around in it! We stayed warm and happy all day!
Friday was also a fun and snowy day! Our morning meeting leader wanted to go on a snowy hike, so after snack we journeyed up the warbler trail through the woods and ended in the arboretum. We listed to birds like chickadees and nuthatches and enjoyed looking at the snow on the trees. On our hike we also looked out for animal tracks in the snow and found a few! We found deer tracks, squirrel tracks leading to a tree, and also tiny mouse tracks too. Once we were in the backyard, we had the brilliant idea to go sledding! 2 sleds, a green and red sled were brought out and we got to take turns sledding down the hill.
Here is hoping that the rest of the winter is even snowier!
