This week, we celebrated the changing of the leaves by searching for 34 colorful maple leaves in the backyard. Some of them were super camouflaged with the real leaves, but our students were able to pick them out with ease!
On Wednesday, our morning meeting leader decided to take us on our biggest adventure yet: hiking down to the brook! After enjoying snack at forest camp, we lined up and began our hike down. On the way, Emily had the students chose a leaf that was similar in some way to the leaf that she chose, which helped us work on our observation and comparing skills. Once at the creek, we enjoyed some time tossing stones into the river, splashing in the water, and finding the largest stick to float. After a fun time at the brook, we hiked quickly back up to forest camp for lunch and pick up!
On Friday, our morning meeting leader also had big plans, and we hiked down to Beaver Pond! We enjoyed snack at forest camp and some imagination play on our pirate ship in the backyard before heading down to the pond. On the way, I took a page out of Emily’s playbook, and had the students find leaves the were similar to one that I had chosen. This is a great way to help your student develop their observational skills and get creative in their picks. Once at beaver pond, we played in the mud, explored the tall grass around the pond, and even got to meet an Eastern Newt! We hiked back up to forest camp for lunch and then it was time for pick up!
