November weather is finally setting in as the days are getting colder. This week has been quite cloudy as well. This week’s animal-to-find was the raccoon. Did you know that raccoons will douse their food in water to get a better read on what it is? Most people think they are “washing” their food when they are actually just moistening it.
Wednesday’s group decided to embark on a long hike to Beaver Pond where we made sculptures from mud and stones and looked in the water for the last of the Eastern Newts. We also decided to eat our lunch at Beaver Pond, sitting in the sun while we listened to our stories).
Friday’s group wanted to hang out at our Forest Camp where we did everything from leaf fights and racing, to building fairy houses and making mud teas (imaginary drinks of various flavors from strawberry chocolate to green vanilla.
We read a few books including “The Hike” and “There Once Was a Tree”, and one called “The Fog”. “The Fog” is a story about a great fog that engulfed a bird’s island. Everything was dim and ghostly causing the bird and his bird friends to feel unhappy. But the fog did go away. The bird learned that with the support of our friends, we can get through difficult times and that better times will come no matter how gloomy and strong the fog may seem.
