Fall at Beaver Pond

Week 6: October 16th and 18th

This week’s animal to find was a bat; each bat was colored by students from previous years so we had a multitude of colors from cherry red to purple spotted. We then dicussed which bat was our favorite by using our words to describe colors, shapes, and more. It was great to hear which bat people liked and if people had the same one too!

Wednesday was chilly but the sun came out for us eventually! Our morning meeting leader wanted to take us back to Beaver Pond to explore the mud magic once more. While we were there, we found some “fish”, made mud balls, and looked for some other critters. Exploring Beaver pond is always so fun because you don’t know what you’re going to find there. We watched a Belted Kingfisher fly and drive catching some food to get them ready for winter. We hiked back up to the barn looking at all the beautiful fall leaves and enjoyed lunch in the backyard!

Friday was warm and sunny, encouraging the group to explore beaver pond. After a long hike down the woods, we made figures out of mud and clay and searched the pond’s edge for newts, insects and other critters. We returned for a nice lunch and read two stories. It was nice for everyone to enjoy the warmer weather before winter sets in.
