April 29: New Session, New Friends!

After a week off we are back to it with a new session and a new group of friends. Today was all about getting to know our special place in the woods, Forest Camp. We started by getting acquainted with our new friends over some mud and chalk. Then we sang "Good Morning Earth" to greet the day and Kelsey read The Hungry Hummingbird by April Pulley Sayre. Now it was time to head to Forest Camp! We had snack around our fire pit and took in all the spring changes that have happened since we were last there. We discussed our boundaries and then after snack we were off! Some of us drew with chalk on fancy new tree cookies (Debbie was practicing her chain saw skills over the weekend). Then we discovered that we could also draw with charcoal from the fire pit! While this was happening, some others found Trillium growing EVERYWHERE! Plant Pat showed it to the kids. A couple kids built a fence to protect a tiny trillium from getting trampled after Pat told us they don't bloom until their seventh year!
