Wet and Wild!

Week 14

It looked like we were going to have a rainy wash out day, but the rain held out for us. Just because it didn’t rain, doesn’t mean we didn’t get wet!

We started our day with a leaf litter search which then led into our first activity. Ciara and I set out 30 fake toads in the woods, we placed them in areas that toads would naturally want to live. It was everyone's job to then find them all. Quickly we found a bunch, but there were 2 toads that were hiding really well that made us search very hard to them. Finally after what seemed like hours, we found them all!

We then planned out our day with Morning Meeting and got to hear what everyone wanted to do during our time at Audubon today. We enjoyed our snack and story to fuel us up for the busy day we had ahead of us. Before we started our journey we ran down to the field to get our wiggles with a game of Park Ranger. We have some super quick runners in this group, it’s hard to tag everyone!

Our first stop was to explore the Sherman Hollow Brook. We first explored here all together last week and were able to walk across no problem. This week, with all of the new rain, we could barely get a foot in the water without it being too deep. Many of us started to construct a bridge to get across, while some of us created some art and skipped rocks.

After a while at the brook we moved on to Beaver Pond. The water level here was also very high! Our group of construction workers went to their usual spot to continue to build their dam. Others searched the pond for critters and we found a few newts, saw some turtles basking on logs, and enjoyed a goose swimming around the pond as well.

These days fly by, and all of a sudden it’s lunch time and pick up! We of course ended our day playing Park Ranger, and some of our adults joined in too!
