Week 3- Full Fall Fun

September 24th and 26th

Our morning was a little wet (finally) but luckily only the ground was wet, we had no rain. To enjoy the wet ground our morning critter we were searching for were 26 red efts! They were hiding in the leaves, under rocks, and along the woods, all where they would normally be found. After some time search we found them all! Some were harder than others blending in and camouflaging with the orange-colored leaves.

Wednesday group had their first Morning Meeting leader and they planned a wonderful day. After snack we journeyed down to Beaver Pond. On the hike down we enjoyed looking at all the fall foliage and picking up some fall leaves we really liked. Some picked leaves that were huge, others picked them for their coloring. Once we made it to Beaver Pond we spent our time searching for frogs, salamanders, tadpoles, and more in the pond! We were able to catch an eastern newt! We also got a little wet and muddy splashing in the water and playing in the mud. The sun came out for us while we were at the pond, and it sure felt so nice! We had such an incredible day!

On Friday our morning meeting leader wanted to take us on an adventure to a place we hadn’t been before, Mossy rocks. We hiked up a part of the Hires trail until we came up on the large mossy rock where we would be playing. First we climbed up the rocks and played on the top for a while. We climbed the large tree on the top, looking under logs and rocks for critters, and built some fairy houses. The second half of our time there we spent on the ground playing and making forts and also searching under the big logs on the ground. To our surprise sitting on one of the logs that we were able to roll had a little wood frog blending in on top! Our day ended with finding a real red eft in the front yard too!
