Week 2- Beaver Pond Fun

September 17th and 19th

Week 2 and we are all still getting to know each other and getting to know our spaces. In the morning when we arrived Naomi had hidden over 20 beavers for us to find! Some were trickier than others, but in the end our groups found them all. Of course we counted to make sure they were all there, we are getting good at counting together.

Both Wednesday and Friday had big adventure days. After snack we hiked down to Beaver Pond! Once there we played in the mud, counted critters in the pond, and enjoyed the sunshine. We found frogs, tadpoles, painted turtles, dragonflies, and so much more!

Wednesday’s groups nature moment was at the pond, a few of us were watching some frogs on a log and then suddenly one jumps up, gets a dragonfly in its mouth, and dives into the water. We then watched another frog try and get the dragonfly away from the other frog, but it wasn’t budging. The frog sat on the log with the dragonfly in its mouth the whole time. We wonder how long it would take to each?

With Friday's group our nature moment was on the way down to the pond on a trail that walks along the pond we suddenly stopped! Naomi pointed up and right above us on a low branch of a Hemlock tree was a Barred Owl staring at us! It didn’t mind that we were there, but we did get to see it take flight and see if huge wings as it landed is a tree a little farther from us.
