Audubon Vermont is looking for folks to join our crew as part of our Education and Maple Sugaring teams.

Education Intern, Spring Semester 2022

For those interested in environmental education, Audubon Vermont provides students and recent graduates with a paid, 200-hour internship. The Intern will have an opportunity to gain practical experience, teaching students (ages from preschool through high school) while working directly with GMAC’s team of professional Teacher/Naturalists.

  • Who: recent graduates, current or soon-to-be students, or other young professionals are encouraged to apply for this positon as part of our Youth Conservation Leadership Program
  • Timing and other informationInterns must be able to commit to 14 hours per week, Monday-Friday, and must be available to teach on those days between 8am and 3pm (there is an opportunity to teach until 5pm, 1 or 2 evenings each week) for 200 hours over the semester. Candidates must have reliable transportation to/from the Green Mountain Audubon Center.

Maple Sugar Maker and Maple Sugaring Assistants

Be a part of our 2022 maple sugaring crew!

We are hiring a Maple Sugar Maker and Maple Sugaring Assistants to work in our Bird-friendly Sugarbush.  You’ll share this rich tradition with our community as you produce maple syrup the traditional way, gathering sap from buckets and boiling over a wood fired arch. You’ll also learn about the importance of managing a sugarbush, for maple syrup production and also for healthy, breeding bird habitat.  Learn more about the positions and how to apply at the links below.

Seasonal Maple Sugaring Assistant

To assist the Sugar Maker in all aspects of the maple sugaring operation and to support the Audubon Center staff in the preparation and implementation of community-wide Sugar on Snow Parties. Specifically, responsible for prepping equipment and preparing the supplies to tap the sugarbush, setting up and cleaning the sugarhouse, gathering sap throughout the season, stocking the sugarhouse with wood as needed and cleaning all sugaring supplies and equipment in the sugarhouse and taking the taps out of the trees at the end of the season.

  • Pay: $14/hr
  • Targeted Start Date: Monday, February 14, 2022
  • Timing and other information: Candidates must have a flexible schedule and reliable transportation to/from the Green Mountain Audubon Center.

Seasonal Maple Sugar Maker

Work with Audubon staff to ensure a safe and successful operation of the 600 tap maple sugaring operation at the Green Mountain Audubon Center in Huntington, Vermont.  Audubon uses buckets to gather sap to highlight the traditional gathering method. Specifically, responsible for preparing the sugarhouse for the season, including setting up the arch, evaporator pan and all other sugaring facilities to ensure the production of maple syrup will take place with the first sap run. The Maple Sugar Maker will keep the sugarhouse in presentable condition both inside an out at all times. The Sugar Maker will work with volunteers and the Maple Sugaring Assistants on a regular basis to coordinate the gathering of sap. Must be available and willing to answer questions and demonstrate the maple sugaring process to students, teachers and other visitors to the Center. Responsible for the timely breakdown, cleaning and closing of the sugarhouse at the end of the season.
