LGBTQIA2S+ hikers are invited for a moderate summer walk at Pease Mountain in Charlotte this August! We will hike a distance of about 3 miles along the Lower South Loop and Upper Loop trails. According to Trail Finder, "This low (800 foot) but prominent hill in Charlotte is a twin of sorts to the better known Mount Philo. After walking across a manicured soccer field, a rough dirt trail winds first through a rich forest of hardwoods up into a drier, sparser summit dotted with hickories separated by meadows." Pease Mountain is also home to distinct natural communities: Mesic Hardwood Forest, Dry Hardwood Forest, and Calcareous Rock Outcrops.
Depending on our route, we will see views of Lake Champlain, Mt. Philo, and the Green Mountains.
Although this is an affinity space for the queer community, we welcome allies of all ages! Participants under 18 should be accompanied by an adult. Dogs must be leashed on this trail, thanks!
Trail information: Easy to moderate trail with packed earth/dirt and rolling terrain.
Please register in advance. Audubon will have binoculars for folks who would like to borrow them.
