Pride Hikes are a collaboration between Audubon Vermont and the Pride Center of Vermont. Pride Hikes have been happening every month since June of 2018 and go beyond being "welcoming to everyone" to creating a safe, affirming space for LGBTQIA++ community members and the allies that support them.

Our May Pride Hike will be co-hosted by Rainbow Bridge Community Center's Treehugger Club at Berlin Pond! Berlin Pond is a loop trail that follows a dirt road surrounding the pond and offers great views of the water as well as the birds who inhabit it. Berlin Pond is an Important Bird Area (IBA), meaning the area is globally important for the conservation of bird populations. This hike is perfect for queer birders - from beginners to experts. At this time of year, Berlin Pond becomes a hotspot for waterfowl and song birds alike. Some of the waterfowl we might see include Hooded and Common Mergansers, American Black Ducks, Buffleheads, Grebes, and more! Audubon will provide binoculars to borrow for our walk. 

Trail Information: The full loop is 5-miles of well-packed dirt road. We can see how we are feeling and split into two groups if some folks want to complete the full loop and others would like to do a shorter out-and-back. 

Pace: Slow, birding pace. 

What to wear/bring: Mid-May can be a hard time of year to dress for. Please bring layers so that you can dress up or down as needed. As we get closer to the event, you will receive an email from the hosts with more detailed weather and gear information. 

All ages, allies, and families welcome! Youth under 18 years should be accompanied by a parent/guardian. 

Please register in advance of the hike so we know how much gear to bring.
