Join Audubon Vermont, Vermont Land Trust, and Pride Center of Vermont for a fun and inclusive day of cross-country skiing at the Catamount Outdoor Family Center! We will ski for about an hour and a half around the 35 kilometers of groomed trails the center has to offer. The terrain is varied with both flat and hilly trails and includes both wooded and open sections that offer beautiful views and scenic vistas. We will stick together as a group on beginner trails, but participants are welcome to challenge by choice if they want more advanced routes. This event was designed with the LGBTQIA+ community and allies in mind.
While this is not a ski lesson, we welcome skiers of all levels! We will have a short review at the beginning of the event of skiing tips, then explore scenic trails at our own pace. Take in the winter beauty, engage in meaningful conversations, and enjoy the company of new friends in a supportive and open atmosphere! Registration is required. Please indicate in the registration if you will need to borrow a complimentary pair of skis (covered by Audubon Vermont and Vermont Land Trust) or if you will bring your own. Have an extra pair of skis that you don't mind lending out? Please bring them!
The Catamount Outdoor Family Center requires all trail users to complete a Participant Waiver. Please complete this form AFTER registering for the event.
Catamount also has xc trail mantras to keep in mind before use. We will go over these day of as well:
- If you are leaving a track, please turn back.
- If the ground is fully white, wearing snowshoes is right.
- Ski wherever your heart desires, single track is best for snowshoes and tires.
- Ski tracks are set to glide, make sure to snowshoe and ride to the side.
What to wear and bring:
- Warm layers that you can take on and off. Even if it is a cold day, xc skiing can get your heart rate up and warm your body. It's always nice to be able to peel back some layers as needed.
- Gloves
- Tall, wool socks
- Water
- Trail snacks
- Sunglasses if forecast calls for sun. Snow is very reflective!
- Sunscreen
No dogs. If under 18, please come accompanied by an adult.
Note: This event is capped so that we can respect the trails. If registration is sold out, we are at capacity. Thanks for your understanding.
