Spring Discoveries

Week 26 May 10th and 12th

Spring is in full swing as the gorgeous greenery pops up all around us. This week, we spent our morning finding the little winged insects who help all this greenery grow: bees! Our students found all of these fuzzy pollinators and had a buzzing great time doing it!

On Wednesday, we hiked down to beaver pond for some muddy exploration at the bank! We saw lots of wildflowers on our way down, including Virginia bluebells and marsh marigold. Once at the pond, we saw turtles sunning themselves on logs, stomped around in the mud, and searched for newts. We hiked back up to the front yard for lunch and pick up.

On Friday, we were lucky to catch a member of our Conservation team, Mark LaBarr, running a bird banding station on the front porch of the office. We got to learn all about the process of bird banding while seeing a robin up close and were even able to watch the robin be released! We spent the rest of our day playing in the sunshine in the backyard and enjoying lunch.
