Snow Adventures

January 24 2023

More snow this week means more fun! As we arrived we had the challenge to write to draw in our nature notebooks 15 things to do with snow. Our lists included, eating it (with syrup), building a snow dragon, tracking in the snow, writing in the snow, shoveling the snow, etc.

We wanted to explore Beaver Pond and compare it to how it was last week. It barely had any snow on it last week, and this week we expected a few inches of snow. We also discussed that snow insulates and keeps what's underneath it warm, which means that the pond might not be as frozen as last week. At the pond we measured 5 inches of snow on the pond. Our first steps were pretty solid, but as we went farther out under the snow turned very slushy. We couldn’t go as far out into the pond as we did last week but we still explored. We found tracks again, some type of bounder that was coming from the water and a little rodent too.

Before lunch we all enjoyed a snowball fight! We had teams and snow ball making masters. It was so much fun and kept us nice and warm

In the afternoon we ventured to the brook, which was running and not very frozen. We found some ice along the bank that looks very cool. We spent some time sculpting the snow and creating some master pieces.
