For our last week of forest playschool, we searched for monarch butterflies. Symbolic of some of our older kiddos spreading their wings and graduating from the program! Our star students found the monarchs in no time, and proved just how good they’ve become at finding our animals.
On Wednesday, we started our day with a mini birdathon, making our way down the warbler trail with our binoculars. We spotted some great birds, including a Rose Breasted Gross Beak! All that birding worked up an appetite, so we enjoyed an early lunch. After lunch, we stuck with the theme and colored some beautiful monarch butterflies. We finished up the day with some free play in the front lawn just as the rain started to fall.
On Friday, we had a special guest in the morning: a black bear! We watch with awe from the front yard as the bear made his way through the woods and quickly out of sight. It was one of my favorite moments ever at Audubon! We then learned how to wield binoculars, and went in search of spotting some of our small, winged friends in the front and back yards. Afterwards, we spent the rest of the day at forest camp, playing with our friends and enjoying lunch.
Thank you for such a fantastic spring semester! It has been a pleasure to experience the beautiful Vermont winter and springtime with your children, while being able to watch them grow and blossom as well.
