Catamount Family Center: Work that's Good for Birds

Catamount Family Center undertakes habitat management for birds and wildlife.

The Catamount Community Center in Williston is moving forward with habitat management efforts at the Catamount Community Forest. The Vermont Department of Forest, Parks and Recreation, US Fish and Wildlife Partners for Wildlife Program, Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, and Audubon Vermont are partnering on the recently approved management plan.

Work will be undertaken this winter to create additional young forest and shrub habitat for birds like Golden-winged and Blue-winged Warblers, American Woodcocks, and Prairie Warblers. This work will include removal of invasive species and management of some forest blocks.

Audubon Vermont will be conducting bird surveys in cooperation with the Green Mountain Audubon Society to better understand bird response to the management actions.
