Beyond syrup, maple sugarbushes can support biodiversity conservation, including providing habitat for a wide variety of bird species. Audubon's Bird-Friendly Maple Program helps maple producers manage their sugarbush for bird-friendly features. Consumers know that their syrup comes with a forest that provides birds with great places to forage, hide, and raise their young.
Come see what a bird-friendly sugarbush looks like from the ground up. Join Steve Hagenbuch, Senior Forest Program Manger at Audubon Vermont, and the Lamoille County Conservation District for a walking tour of Sterling Mountain Farm in Johnson. See how Rob Maynard and Deb Ravenelle run their maple operation while providing quality bird habitat. We'll talk about how the forest is managed and of course keep our eyes out for birds.
