LGBTQIA2S+ hikers and allies are invited to Brewster Uplands to walk the Brewster River Trail this September. Brewster Uplands is a 634-acre property that has been protected by the Vermont Land Trust since 2006. The property is a wonderful example of the relationship between forests, farms, conservation, and community. Decades of stewardship by the Bryan family, and more recently, VLT and partners, have protected Brewster Uplands as a vital community resource. Whether traversing the land, learning from it, or savoring the food it produces, people are an integral part of Brewster Uplands’ present and future. You can learn more about the history of the land, the Bryan family, and how the land is being used today here.

Of the seven miles of trails, we will walk about two miles along the Alden Bryan Trail and Brewster Falls Trail.

Trail information: We will walk about .5 miles from the parking lot to the top of the waterfall. Our route includes a beautiful covered bridge! From the falls, we will walk another 1.5 miles at most. The trail follows along the Brewster River with multiple places to take breaks and/or jump in the water if the weather is still warm enough (or not if you are a cold plunge enthusiast!).

Trail conditions: The trail is wide with a mixed gravel surface. It is generally flat, but there will be one short steep section with about 200 feet in elevation gain.

Parking: Parking in on the west side of the Grist Mill Covered Bridge in a town-owned lot. It's located .8 miles from the junction of VT-108 and VT-15 in Jeffersonville. Here is a Google Map link.

Hike hosts:
