6:45pm - 8:00pm Eastern Vermont
Shelburne Bay Park
Grab a headlamp, some warm layers, and put on your listening ears as we listen for and talk about owls and woodcock on an evening stroll at the Ti-Haul Trail in Shelburne, VT. This family-friendly event will introduce you to the owls of Vermont and what makes these adorable birds such fierce predators. Then, as the sun begins to set and the light fades away, we will head to the gravel path of the Ti-Haul Trail south of Bay Rd. Here we will listen for Great-horned and Barred Owls and search for American Woodcock (a.k.a. timberdoodles) claiming their territories through elaborate aerial displays and echoing "Peeent" calls. This event if expected to last from 6:45 PM to 8 PM. Although the trail is largely gravel, the spring snow melt and thaw can make it either icy or muddy, so plan to wear appropriate footwear. Headlamps/flashlights, binoculars, and warm layers are recommended as it can cool off quickly once the sun goes down. Parking is available at the Shelburne Bay Park/Ti-Haul Trail Parking lot adjacent to the Shelburne Bay Boat Launch north of Bay Rd in Shelburne, VT (Google Maps Pin: https://goo.gl/maps/4ZCgoHhLEgHFCJ8V7)
This event is hosted in collaboration with the Vermont Woodlands Association.
