Unschool at Audubon

Education that supports student-chosen activities as a direct means for learning.

Unschool at Audubon Vermont takes on the ideas on "Unschooling" but is using a place-based education. "Unschooling" is an informal learning style that supports student picked activities as a primary means for learning. Unschooled students learn through their personal life experiences including play, personal interests and curiosity, books, social interaction, and much more. Unschooling encourages activities initiated by the children themselves, believing that the more personal learning is, the more meaningful, well understood and therefore useful it is to the child.

At Audubon we integrate the outdoor classroom with academic concepts, conservation-based themes, and connection with nature. Audubon Vermont's series of monthly outdoor nature-based programs focus on key science concepts. Each program is designed to give a platform from which to build units/lessons in homeschooling or to supplement the child's classroom learning at school.

We offer a monthly session for 6- 12 year-olds. We have two teachers available to give us the flexibility to work in age-appropriate small groups or come together as one big class. Our program runs for 5 hours, including a 30 minute lunch break. All programs run from 9 am to 2 pm.

Registration: Register online for each session by clicking the program topic on our Unschool at Audubon webpage. The link will take you to a detailed program description and online registration. Registration is open for the whole year, and you can register as early in advance as you like. Please note our cancellation policy.

Program descriptions for the full year for most topics can be found in our Education Program page.
