Squishy Mud

Week 15: April 27, 2022

With all the rain that has been coming the animals have been loving it, and it has been making for some interesting terrian at Beaver Pond. If you stand in one place for to long you might loose your boot to the mud! We explored Beaver Pond again and searched for more cirtters this week. We saw some turtles sunning themselves on rocks and logs in the pond. We also found some sneaky newts hiding in the reeds of the Pond. We worked on our dam that is in the area between the pond and the River. We noticed that the soild and water seemed to be orangey in one spot and we talked about how that was likey due to there being a high level of iron in the soil. We walked up and down the pond to see other areas of orange that we could spot!

Another great day at Audubon!

looking in the pond area for critters
There was no space that went unturned for critters at Beaver Pond. We even looked in trenches that were made by the tractor wheels, and to our surprise we found four newts and an egg sack too! Photo: Audubon Vermont
