Forest Classroom

Springing into Action

Week 11

With our first Wednesday of April we had some excitement right away, we welcomed 7 new friends to join us for our final 8 weeks. We were all so thrilled to be able to share Forest Classroom with our new friends and have a wonderful day.

As we all arrived Sarah led us on a leaf litter search. With the dry warm weather we weren’t likely to find a lot of amphibians, but we found a number of worms and insects hiding under logs and rocks.

Once we all arrived we joined in to play a fan favorite game, Park Ranger! Everyone thought of an animal in Vermont and when Sarah called out a trait or characteristic of that animal we had to run to the other side of the field. If we got tagged by Sarah, we became park rangers too.

We started off our day doing some introductions, sharing our name, our pronouns, and a favorite thing to do or see in the spring time which ranged from mountain biking, seeing the amphibians come out, wildflowers, and so much more. After this we went over the rules of Forest Classroom and then held Morning Meeting to plan what our day would look like.

After snack and a story we journeyed to Beaver Pond. First we stopped at the game camera we put up last week to see if we captured any critters (we did! Look further down for photos). Once we grabbed the camera we ran to Beaver pond where we explore the water, the different channels, and a rock bed area in the woods. We got muddy, wet, and had soooooo much fun!

All this exploring and investigating made us hungry, so we ran back to the clubhouse where we enjoyed lunch and another story about wood frogs. We ended lunch looking at photos from the game camera! We captured pictures of a raccoon, beaver(s) and humans too.

We ended out day free playing in the field with each other and then circled up for our Thank You Circle where we share one thing we really enjoyed about the day and were thankful for getting a chance to do.

As our adults came we finished with a final game of Park Ranger.

This is a wonderful group of friends and I cannot wait to see what other exciting adventures we go on.
