This week we got out our water boots and had a wet and wonderful time! We found ourselves exploring the water's edge as we visited all of Audubon's wonderful watery worlds. We took a close look at all of the critters and plants that live in and near the water, and of course played in the mud!
Monday we focused on water flow and the water cycle. We started our day with coloring a HUGE banner that we will be working on throughout the whole week. We also made up a super fun dance to help us remember the water cycle and danced all around the front yard! It was a wet and warm day, perfect for amphibians to come up and crawl around us. In the afternoon we went on a salamander search along the Hires trail and found over 30 red efts!
Tuesday was all about creepy crawlies! We hiked to Beaver Pond and did some critter collecting and idenifitying. We even explored the various habitats there and what plants grow in different locations. We had lunch in the Beaver Blind and were told a critter filled story by our Counselors in Training ( CITs). We ended our day hiking back and finger painting the critters we saw at the pond on paper to take home.
Wednesday we focused on amphbians. Before we began on our daily adventure we turned one of our friends into a FROG! we talked about all of the different parts of a frong and what makes an amphbians an amphibian. We took a hike down to the Sherman Hollow Brook and enjoyed our lunch down there too. We played the frog call game and also created some journals too.
Thursday was a fish filled day! We learned about the anatomy of a fish and were Vermont specific about the species too. We played some fishy themed games and made our very own fish out of a paper plate. We turned into fish in the afternoon and played with the water from the hose!
Friday we went back and explore some of the splishiest and splashiest locations. We hiked down to the Brook and built boats, dams, and searched for more critters. It was such a fun way to end camp!
