The Rain Never Bothered Us Anyway

September 21, 2018

Notes from Forest Playschool

Last Friday at Forest Playschool was definitely a wet one; as everyone was arriving the skies opened up and it was POURING! Rae and I set up the kiddie pool with toy boats to see how full it was going to be by the end of our day.

Since it was so wet outside, Rae and I had our morning activity inside. We colored at our tables creating a bright and colorful 2D world. After coloring we got right to business, Rae led morning meeting and we planned what our day was going to look like.  We wanted to hike (depending on rain), get sticky with a fun craft, fuel up on snacks, and do so much more!

After snack inside, we saw that the rain had started to slow down, so we thought it would be a great time to go outside and explore our wet world.  Once all of our rain gear was on, we began on our journey outside.  We played a very easy trail game as we began. We were all salamanders and would walk together through the trails saying “salamander, salamander, salamander...” and when either Rae or I would say “FROG”, we would have to freeze, so that the frog wouldn’t see us!  It was so much fun, and we were all great salamanders.

Rae led our group walk through the garden, up into the woods, and back to the barn.  On our walk we stopped and lay down to listen to the sound of rain on the leaves, counted all of the bird houses we walked past, collected bright and colorful leaves, and told fun stories.  We even found a wild cucumber too!

When we got back to the barn, we looked at the pool and saw that it was filling up nicely.  We wrapped up our day with lunch and a fun craft/experiment.  We made putty by mixing glue and liquid starch!  It was super slimy and silly. We had such an amazing time playing with it.
