This week of Audubon Ecology Camp, we got creative with nature art!
Monday started with these campers traveling to the Sherman Hollow Brook where they nature painted and made bookmarks. They enjoyed lunch by the river and searched for critters in the water in the afternoon.
Tuesday they got right into it by Bird Banding with Mark LaBarr in the Sugarhouse field. They got to see Mark measure the birds wings, weight, band them, and then release them. Right after they got on the road, hiked to the Birds of Vermont Museum, and spent some time with those beautiful bird carvings. The afternoon was spent hiking back and playing lots of games.
Wednesday these artists spent some time at the Huntington River. They focused on making cairns, which are rock sculptures. They also made mobiles and boats throughout the day. They ended this creative day with cardboard and soap sculpting!
Thursday was the art of survival. The campers made fairy houses and/or forts, and learned what materials were best and would protect them the most. They also made traps, because why not?! Their creativity was incredible.
Friday is always the best day at camp. They went back to their favorite place of the week, the river, and explore by letting their imaginations run wild. They created some amazing natural dream catchers too. The day ended with an Audubon Camp game tradition, Life and Death in the Forest!
