Brrrrrrr it’s definitely feeling like November and looking like stick season! This morning Kyra had a great activity planned for us, create an animal out of leaves and then draw in its habitat. Kyra and I showed an example of a bear in the woods. We all created some great animals, we had a dog, horse, a few fish, a dragonfly, and so many more!
Our morning was spent at Beaver Pond and we worked on making fires again! We discussed what went wrong last week, what our safety rules are, and then got to work! We gathered sticks from the area and when we were ready, we had a chance to light a cotton ball for practice using matches. We then made our fire structures and go to lighting them too. Each of our three groups got 10 matches' total. 2 out of the 3 groups successfully lit their fires and kept them going, the third groups ran out of matches, but brought their sticks to the other groups to help them! All together we got to enjoy fires and keep them going for a while. After enjoying our fires, we spent some time exploring beaver pond. It’s starting to freeze over! Soon we should be safely able to walk across the pond and explore areas like never before.
In the afternoon, after lunch and a field game, we went to work on our shelters. We discussed what makes for a good shelter and what a good location would be too. As we worked on our shelters, we also created a village! We got to work on creating a road system and cleared leaves, we made an area for a park, hospital, garage, school etc. It was incredible watching everyone work so well together and create such an incredible area. The team work that Kyra and I were watching was so impressive!
With fire building and creating a village, today ended up having a theme, we are better and strong when we work together! This group excelled today and I cannot wait for us to become even stronger together.
