It’s September! The leaves are falling and the hawks are flying. Join the Green Mountain Audubon Society (GMAS) for the annual hawk watch at Mount Philo State Park. This year our hawk watch will take place on four separate days:
- Thursday, September 12,
- Friday, September 13,
- Monday, September 16, and
- Tuesday, September 17.
Each day one or more GMAS Board members will be at the summit from 10 AM to 2 PM to count the hawks and other raptors that fly by. Feel free to join us on one or more of these days, especially if there is a stiff north wind to help the birds make their way south.
A useful guide for the identification of raptors in flight can be found at the Hawk Migration Association of North America website under Resources. Here is the link: www.hmana.org
This event is free and open to the public. Please note that the park is open and there is a fee to enter the park. Parking is available at the summit of Mount Philo.
Please register in advance for this event by e-mailing GMAS at email@example.com. Please include the date or dates when you plan to attend.
