Super Squirrels

Week 7 October 18th and 20th

This week, we started our mornings by searching for our fluffy friends, squirrels. We hid 25 of them throughout the backyard. Even with my attempts to hide them in harder spots, our students were able to find them with little to no trouble. I’m going to have to get creative next week!

On Wednesday, our morning meeting leader planned a great day for us, which began with having snack at forest camp. Emily and I are loving how often we are using that space for snacks and meals this semester. We ate a quick snack and enjoyed “Leaf Man” before lining up to hike down to Beaver Pond! Our students did a fantastic job hiking this week, and we got to Beaver Pond with plenty of time to play and explore. We wrote our names in the mud, poked around with some sticks, and got to see an Eastern Newt up close. We hiked back to forest camp for lunch and ended our day there with some free play.

On Friday, we celebrated the Halloween season by carving pumpkins! We split into two groups and each group was able to decide how they wanted their jack-o-lantern to look. My group chose two different shaped eyes, an upside-down triangle nose, and a toothy grin. Emily’s group opted for a kitty design! We had a great time feeling the texture of the inside of the pumpkin and getting creative with our shapes and designs. After carving, we hiked up to mossy rocks to build fairy houses! After building some fantastic fairy homes, we enjoyed lunch together at forest camp and then had some free play before pick up.
