This week we were Hootin' and Howlin' with Fun!

Monday, we started our week off learning about Habitats and Shelters. We went on a scavenger hunt for shelters in our trailgroups.  But these were less trailgroups and more packs. We had the Bears, Coyotes, Chipmunks, and Alpha Coyotes. After the scavenger hunt we learned about birds, the habitats where they live, their nests, and how to identify some common birds.

On Tuesday we went with the pack theme and spent the day being good pack members and what it would take to work together. We did some pack team-building and then went on a pack scavenger hunt. Each trailgroup was given a clue and had to find prey, shelter, and water to survive as a unit. After lunch we played games and spent some quiet time in sit spots and visited the brook. You've never seen so many crawfish (outside of a crawdad boil)!

Wednesday: What's your favorite predator? We were on the hunt again, but this time by scent. We had to use our noses to find and smell certain things: something rotten, sweet, scentless, tasty, etc. Then in the afternoon we played Super Hunter. The campers were given a description of prey and they had to describe and design the predator.

Thursday was all about birds. What's your favorite bird? We hiked up to the Birds of Vermont Museum to spend the morning with them among all the hand-carved birds. We also had lunch there before hiking back to camp to end our day with some bird crafts. Put a bird on it.

Friday: After all of that we still had energy to do one more scavenger hunt, the scavenger hunt to end all scavenger hunt days. First up we had to search all through the woods for clues. Each clue would give us a letter and that would spell out the name of a predator. After lunch, we then played Life and Death in the Forest, an Audubon Classic! Who do you think survived, the Voles, Hawks, or Crickets?

It’s been a roaring good time!
