NestWatch
Audubon Vermont is starting a new community science initiative in collaboration with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's national nest monitoring program, NestWatch. Nestwatch collects data regarding when nesting occurs, number of eggs laid, how many eggs hatch, and how many hatchlings survive in order to study breeding bird populations and how they may be changing over time as a result of climate change, habitat degradation and loss, expansion of urban areas, and the introduction of non-native plants and animals. At Audubon Vermont's Green Mountain Nature Center, we will focus primarily on the nest boxes we have on property rather than those found in trees, platforms, the ground or cavities. That being said, your participation in NestWatch is not limited to our center and can be used anywhere you find a nest.
On our 250+ acre property we have X nest boxes. Come late winter or early spring, we will prep each nest box to ensure it is clean and stable for future visitors.
