Wind Storm Recovery: VYCC, WPTZ, and Trail Update

Nearly ALL of the trails at the Green Mountain Audubon Center are now open!

VYCC Lends a Hand: Trails are OPEN!

Thanks to the expertise and hard work of a great crew of Vermont Youth Conservation Corps (VYCC) staff working with us this Thursday, we're excited to announce that nearly ALL of the trails at the Green Mountain Audubon Center are now open! The Spear Trail and the Museum Trail on our upper property are the only closed trails as of today. (Scroll down for some great photos of the VYCC crew at work!)

We are so grateful for the outpouring of volunteer hours, positive energy, financial assistance, and words and gestures of support over the past two weeks since the Wind Storm hit. We're fortune to be part of such a wonderful community here in Vermont. A heartfelt THANK YOU to you all!

WPTZ Covers Audubon's Wind Storm Recovery

A news crew from WPTZ (MyNBC5) joined us on Thursday. They documented some of the tricky tree challenges that the VYCC crew tackled. They also interviewed our Audubon Center Director, Kim Guertin, who gave a clear-eyed assessment of the work still ahead and the tremendous progress we've made. Click here for the video.

How You Can Help

  • Volunteer Work Groups: If you work for a company that allows employees to volunteer time during the week, we are looking for organized groups possibly starting as early as next week to help with clean-up. Please contact Kim Guertin, our Audubon Center Director, if you can help organize a group to help during the work week. kguertin@audubon.org or 802/434-3068
  • Make a donation to support the Green Mountain Audubon Center as we work together to repair our buildings and trails after the wind storm. Click here to donate.
  • Please stay off of closed trails until they are open. Check our News page or Facebook page for the latest updates. Click here for our Trail Map.
  • Come walk our trails and lend a hand.
    • As you walk the trails, if you see small branches please move them to the side of the trail.
    • If you find a tree blocking a trail that has re-opened please let us know so we can remove it. Email vermont@audubon.org to let us know the location and what you find.
