Monday is when the magic began. During morning meeting we were greeted by River. Some say she is a mermaid, some say she is a water fairy, some say she is Rae in a turquoise wig. Whoever she is, she always brings the magic and fun. She welcomed us to camp and asked us to help her friends the forest fairies by building fairy houses at forest camp. So we headed to the woods and got to work building. Even though it started to rain, these busy contractors kept up their work. We even had lunch in the rain! Then we made a magic potion to lure the fairies back to the woods where new houses awaited them.

On Tuesday we found out that the woods really were magical! We met Gnome Norm! Well...sort of. Norm is really scared of people so he turns to stone if there are humans nearby. But he left us a note thanking us on behalf of the fairies for their new homes. We went to check out the fairy homes and we could tell fairies and gnomes had been there because there was pixie dust EVERYWHERE! Then Norm asked us to help his critter friends that live in the Brook. Because of all the hot weather and lack of rain, he was worried that they would be in trouble. We headed to the Brook and he was right, where we normally play was totally dry! Fortunately there was water downstream, so we played and looked for critters for the afternoon before heading back to the barn to read the BFG by Roald Dahl.

Wednesday was all about the needs of Fairies and Gnomes. We spent the morning in the garden on a scavenger hunt. We found so many examples of fairy food! Good thing the Green Mountain Audubon Center maintains the grounds with native plants for birds, because there was fairy food everywhere! As we were ending our search we saw something moving in the grass...it was Norm! He quickly turned back to stone but he had another note for us, thanking us for completing his mission of checking on his friends at the brook. For the afternoon we had lunch and after, took turns leading the group in a stretch circle: cheetah, tree, kitty, and dog pose were just a few that the campers came up with to help rejuvenate us during our hibernation break. After lunch we played and made fairy wands. When we were outside letting our wands dry, Norm and the Fairies came by to see our wands and left us magic beads we could play with!

Today we are gearing up to make Fairy and Gnome Crowns that will be decorated and magical. We are also going to make some clothespin fairy companions and Gnome Potion. Tomorrow is the last day of Fairy and Gnome camp, but it doesn't mean the magic has to stop! Fairy houses are fun to build year round at home or here at the Center. You can even find a fairy house festival in the fall in Grafton!

Thanks for the magic all you Fairies and Gnomes!
