What is wet and silly all over? 

Audubon campers this week!

This wet week is all about Water! Campers have been diving into some serious science, looking at the biotic, abiotic, and physical properties of this life giving resource.

On Monday, campers explored Beaver Pond and showed staff how fearless they are by catching lots of leeches! 

They also went to the Sherman Hollow Brook. And while some put their engineering skills to the test by building dams and bridges and watching how it all changes the flow of the water, others focused on catching salamanders and crayfish and other aquatic life.

Tuesday was all about physics. Audubon was fortunate to be able to borrow a Stream Table from the Friends of the Winooski River. This table is full of fine plastic that acts as substrate and has water flowing through it. By building, adding plants and buildings, campers could see how the flow of water changes the land and visa versa. Campers also explored surface tension and build bridges.

The weather was wonderful on Wednesday so a trip to the Huntington River was in the cards. We also tested the pH of the waterbodies around Audubon.

Putting yourself in the food chain? Thats what happend today when campers and crew played Life and Death in the Ocean! Sharks, Otters, and Minnows swam through the sugarbush, hiding, finding food and water, and trying not to get eatten! 

Today and on Tuesday, Ashley came after lunch to lead us in Nature Yoga, and guided us in creating our own aquatic poses. 

A good bit more of running around and exploring are in the cards. Fingers crossed the thunder holds off!
