Data Presentation: Reading the Site Descriptions

Each Site Description includes a summary report and map for each IBA and IBA Complex. Below are descriptions for each of the summary report headings.

Site Name: The official name of the IBA or IBA Complex. Some names were modified from what was submitted by the nominator to more accurately reflect the site area.

Location: The town(s) and county (s) within which the IBA lies.

Bird Conservation Region: The BCR within which the IBA is located.

Size: The size in acres of the IBA.

Latitude and Longitude: The approximate latitude and longitude of the IBA.

IBA Criteria: The criteria categories the IBA met for designation.

Land Ownership: Describes ownership (federal, state, municipal, private) of the IBA. Many IBAs have multiple owners.

Habitats: General habitat types found in the IBA.

Land Use: General categories of land use.

Threats: List of current and potential threats to the site and/or the birds using the site.

Site Description: An overall description of the site, is geographic location and when applicable a list of Vermont Natural Community types as defined in Wetland, Woodland, Wildland: A Guide to the Natural Community of Vermont by E. H. Thompson and E. R. Sorenson.

Birds: A summary of the birds occurring at the site with an emphisis on the species and/or assemblages which resulted in the IBA designation.

Conservation: A summary of current conservation efforts including research and monitoring. Also included here is a summary of current and potential conservation issues and/or threats which may impact the long-term viability of the site.
